Musikfest Berlin 2026 opens with György Ligeti’s “Le Grand Macabre” and goes on to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Berliner Festspiele with a diverse array of programming. The festival features Cape Town Opera’s performance of the Gershwins’ “Porgy and Bess,” a revival of Wolfgang Rihm’s orchestra ritual “Tutuguri” by the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra, and the Salzburg Marionette Theatre’s take on Igor Stravinsky’s “L’histoire du soldat.” Among many other musical highlights, Musikfest will also host the Kanze Nō Theater from Japan as it tours in Europe.
